Civic Organizations & Volunteerism

Indiana University Foundation – Member of the John S. Grimes Advisory Committee, 2012 – present.  (The principal purpose of this committee is to advise the Indiana University Foundation on fellowships and scholarships provided to faculty members of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law).

IndyFringe (Indianapolis Fringe Theatre, Inc.) – Member, Board of Directors,  2010 – present; president of the board since 2012; led the development efforts to secure ownership of the IndyFringe Basile Theatre in 2011.

Compassion & Choices of Indiana – Board of Directors, 2010 – present.  (Compassion & Choices defends and promotes the individual rights associated with end-of-life choices permitting death with dignity.)

Jewish Community Center Association of Indianapolis – Past President & Board of Directors, 1985 – present; Chair of Cultural Arts and several other committees; President from 1995-98.

Thomson West Group Publishing – Member of National Advisory Board, Housing and Development Reporter, 1994 – 2011.  (This board was comprised of representatives involved in the affordable housing and community development industry throughout the country and met quarterly in Washington, DC.  During his years of service, Mr. Katz was the only attorney selected to serve on this board from the State of Indiana.)

Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. (CHIP) – Board of Directors, 2003 – 2009; Member of Executive Committee and an officer, 2006 – 2009.  (CHIP endeavors to bring about systemic improvements through a range of interrelated activities such as community education and advocacy, creating a common vision for change, securing additional community resources, recruiting strong volunteer leadership, and providing opportunities for partnerships and actions that will enhance the local response to homelessness.)

JCCA of North America – Board of Directors, 2004-2010. (This is the governing body of Jewish Community Centers in North America, based in New York, NY.)

Indiana Housing Finance Authority – Member, Board of Directors, 1994 – 2008; Planning Committee for Annual Conference on Affordable Housing, 1997-2002; Advisor to Indiana Equity Fund (This fund was created in 1994 by the Indiana Housing Finance Authority for the purpose of providing several million dollars of equity assistance to affordable housing projects in the state of Indiana.).

Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis – Member, Board of Directors, 1991 – 2000.

Congregation Beth El Zedeck – Member, Board of Directors, 1992 – 1995.
